Regional civil contractors could secure new works packages to deliver roads upgrades for local councils, as part of public investment to reduce road trauma.

The State Government has announced it will pour $210 million into the Safe Local Roads and Streets program, covering the 87 per cent of roads that are managed by local councils.

The Safe Local Roads and Streets program encompasses 200 projects, committing up to $2 million to develop, design and deliver safety upgrades on local roads, intersections and precincts.

Local councils manage 87 per cent of Victoria’s roads and the funding will allow LGAs to deliver a range of upgrades to improve safety on local roads including pedestrian crossings, intersection upgrades and speed-calming measures.
