Work Health and Safety Alert – Information for Managers:

A worker suffered a serious injury at a Roads and Maritime work site on the night of 21st/22nd February 2015.

The purpose of this WHS Alert is to highlight the occurrence to both Roads and Maritime and industry partners and use it as an opportunity to review and reinforce the risk controls that are in place. This alert is written for senior managers and managers, so that you can use the information to brief other personnel.

Background:

Roads and Maritime had a number of projects being carried out to improve safety for customers along the M1 (Mt Ousley Rd) which included a full closure of the road, from just north of Gipps Road overbridge to Bulli Tops, on the night of the 21st/22nd February. The intent of closing the road was to maximise the safety of workers and others (including customers) whilst allowing Roads and Maritime to efficiently carry out a number of roadwork activities. The activities being conducted included road resurfacing, drain maintenance, installation of new road signage, vegetation maintenance and repairs to guardrails.
