The Chair of the City West Water board, David Middleton has announced that Maree Lang has been appointed as the new Managing Director of City West Water following a national recruitment process.

Maree’s passionate leadership really stood out throughout the process, along with her deep connection to City West Water and the communities we service. Maree has played a key part in developing our Achievement Culture and has an inspiring vision for the organisation to enhance innovation and further develop the organisation and industry.

Combined with her water sector experience and a diverse and commercially driven background, Maree has demonstrated her ability to set direction and lead transformation and growth in complex and changing environments, which is crucial for the times we are in.

City West Water is privileged to service one of the fastest growing regions in Melbourne. More than one million people rely on us each and every day to provide safe, efficient and affordable services across the CBD and the expanding western suburbs.

As Acting Managing Director since November 2019, Maree has continued to lead the organisation to successfully deliver essential services to our customers and listen to the needs of the community. Maree has also supported a culture here at City West Water where people are safe, valued and supported in everything they do.

It’s Maree’s commitment to culture and safety leadership, with a determination to be an authentic and inclusive leader that made her the stand out for the role. Maree was also recognised for her achievements as one of Victoria’s Top 50 Public Sector Women for 2018 and more recently was selected to be a participant in the inaugural 2020 Executive Leadership Women in Water Program, sponsored by the Victorian Minister for Water, Lisa Neville.

Maree is thrilled to continue to lead City West Water, as together, we innovate and adapt to new opportunities in delivering exceptional services for our customers and continuing to enable our people to choose exceptional too. These are unprecedented times, and the Board and I have full confidence in Maree’s leadership to drive the change and growth required for the west and look after the health and wellbeing of our people.
