Civil contractors are urged to ensure they are ready for changes to Victoria’s Fair Jobs Code which take effect from 1 September, potentially creating more cost and complexity to running their business.
The Victorian Government is lowering the threshold for pre-assessment certificates for suppliers and sub-contractors to $1 million, from $3 million and $10 million respectively.
The new $1 million threshold means more businesses will be required to hold a pre-assessment certificate to participate in procurement and tendering for Government contracts or grants.
Civil industry businesses bidding for government grants or contracts must show they maintain safe, inclusive, secure workplaces for their workers and demonstrate a history of complying with applicable industrial laws.
The Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions is hosting a series of online information sessions for business owners and managers throughout July and into August, in advance of the 1 September start date when the changes take effect.
