Records were broken on Sunday 28 July 2019, with more than 15,000 people and 260 teams taking part in Run Melbourne, raising over $1.7 million for charities in need.

It was the fifth year that Fulton Hogan’s team pounded the city’s pavements to raise money in support of the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.

Brain cancer is a serious disease, killing more children than any other illness in Australia and accounting for the highest number of cancer-related deaths in Australians under 40.  But not much is known about its causes or how to treat it.

David Fisher, General Manager Southern Construction said “the Fulton Hogan team, made up of 113 runners, joggers and walkers were incredibly proud to support the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation for another year. The day consisted of industry sponsors, current and past employees, along with their nearest and dearest.

“The first year we participated in Run Melbourne was 2015, where we raised $22,000. This year, with the generous support of our sponsors, we have reached close to $100,000, bringing our total donation over the last five years well over $300,000.

“The charity has particular significance to our team. In 2012, we lost our former General Manager Bruce Rowell to brain cancer. We continue to run each year to raise funds and awareness in his honour and to help other brain cancer sufferers.”

Prior to the event, Fulton Hogan hosted a special lunch to thank our 46 sponsors, including CCF Victoria. The guest speaker was Annabelle Wilson, Cure Brain Cancer Foundation’s Head of Advocacy, who lost her husband Josh to this dreaded disease in November 2017, just two months before their daughter was born.

During her heartfelt presentation, she thanked everyone for their continued efforts and contributions, which will help patients gain access to new treatments and bring quality clinical trials to Australia.
