Hundreds of construction and sustainability sector experts are expected to converge on Melbourne in November for ecologiQ’s inaugural Greener Infrastructure Week.
Supported by CCF Victoria, Greener Infrastructure Week (Nov 11th – 15th) kicks off with an industry lunch followed by packed agenda of tours and webinars, all exploring topics including:
- The role of recycled materials in decarbonising infrastructure;
- How modular design can help reduce waste and project costs, and;
- How collaboration can create a thriving marketplace for sustainable materials.
Ever increasing demand for greater sustainability and a shift to circular economy within our construction sector is creating more and more interest in the latest and greatest sustainability innovations, allowing projects to use more recycled and reused materials than ever before.
The Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA), which oversees the government’s Big Build program, has recently released its Transport Infrastructure Decarbonisation Strategy noting the transport sector is both a source of emissions and an opportunity to implement steps to reduce the carbon footprint of construction.
Since Victoria’s Recycled First Policy (RFP) was introduced in March 2020, the use of recycled and reused materials across the state’s major infrastructure projects has almost doubled, and 4.6 million tonnes of waste has been diverted from landfill so far.
Between 2023 and 2027, ecologiQ estimates at least 15 million tonnes of material will be needed for major transport construction projects. Of this, up to 10 million tonnes – or two-thirds – could potentially be replaced by recycled or reused alternatives if all opportunities are adopted.
Building on the important conversations started at the 2022 and 2023 ecologiQ conferences, the week-long event will be a celebration of National Recycling Week, with a focus on the organisations and projects who are leading the way in building purposely greener infrastructure.
Greener Infrastructure Week will open with an exclusive industry lunch hosted by CCF Victoria and featuring a keynote address by Kevin Devlin, Director-General of the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority.
Don’t miss this opportunity to come together with fellow leaders in construction and hear about the latest innovations in sustainable infrastructure.
