Update on the implementation of the now revised MRWA Sewerage standards:

Importantly, Contractors are protected by the staged implementation, and the use of “first warning” for non compliance until 1st April 2021.

Please note the below:

The revised and new Sewerage standards represent a significant change to our requirements, so the MRWA will be phasing in the adoption of these standards over a period of time as follows:

  • Projects executed up until 1 January 2021 may comply with either the previous or revised standards.
  • Projects executed from 1 January 2021 shall comply with the revised standards. Designs completed to previous standards as part of agreements that have lapsed but been re-executed prior to 1 April 2021 need not be updated to the new standards.

Up until April 2021, first occurrence non-conformances will not be issued where there is compliance with the previous but not revised standards. Should a Consultant or Contractor be notified of a fault under the revised standards and subsequently repeat that fault, the MRWA may then issue a non-conformance.

  • From 1 April 2021, all works executed after this date shall comply with the revised standards and non-conformances may be issued where non-compliance occurs.

We will update you as we receive more information and have notification of any further announcements from MRWA.

Please call 1300 DIAL CCF if you wish to speak with our team further about this matter.
