The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) has recently advised our industry that cases of fraudulent delivery of Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) National Skill Set training have been identified in Victoria.

This news reinforces the importance of ensuring workers complete TTM National Skill Set training through an Approved Training Provider (ATP).  

The department also directs that training attained through unauthorised providers is not recognised, creating safety and compliance risks for both workers and employers. In this instance the qualification will need to be reattained through a valid ATP.  

TTM Training Transition Timeline

In Victoria, the Austroads National Training Framework for Temporary Traffic Management was introduced through a staged rollout, with different TTM training categories becoming mandatory at different times.

The key dates for Victoria are:

  • Traffic Controller (TC) and Traffic Management Implementer (TMI) Course
    – mandatory since 1 March 2024
  • Traffic Management Designer (TMD) Course  – mandatory since 10 July 2024
  • Short Term Low Impact (STLI) TTM Course – mandatory since 1 April 2025
  • Utilities TTM Worker Accreditation Course – mandatory since 1 July 2025

Employers should ensure workers have completed their TTM training through an approved training provider and hold a current Austroads accreditation before undertaking Temporary Traffic Management duties.

Choose an Austroads Approved Training Provider

When arranging TTM training, businesses should confirm that their chosen provider is an Approved Training Provider (ATP) authorised to deliver Austroads TTM National Skill Set training.
