CCF Victoria Supports Independent Inquiry to Restore Confidence in Victoria’s Construction Sector

CCF Victoria welcomes Premier Ben Carroll’s commitment to establish a Royal Commission into Victoria’s construction industry. This is an important opportunity to restore confidence in a sector responsible for delivering the roads, utilities and enabling infrastructure on which every Victorian relies.
Poor conduct, coercion and inefficient industry practices increase project costs, delay delivery and ultimately leave taxpayers, contractors and workers carrying the consequences. These issues also undermine fair competition and make it harder for reputable businesses to invest, employ and grow.
The Queensland inquiry has already demonstrated the value of an independent examination, delivering important insights and practical recommendations for reform. Victoria now has an opportunity to build on that work and pursue meaningful, lasting change across the sector.
It is critical that the Victorian Royal Commission has a broad remit covering the entire construction industry, including civil infrastructure and all participants across the contracting chain. The inquiry must not simply identify past failures. It should establish a clear reform pathway that improves conduct, accountability, competition and productivity across the industry.
