Tendering is No Longer Business As Usual

Tendering. It’s simple, right? A brief blurb on the company. A summary methodology. A list of available equipment. And a price. After all, it all comes down to price. Not so. Not in the current market. And not with the challenges faced by the Victorian Government.

Victoria is experiencing unprecedented growth. It’s the fastest growing State in Australia. The Government is making the largest infrastructure investment in the State’s history – with a pipeline of $80 billion in rail and roads upgrades and development, new schools and hospitals, increased supply of social and affordable housing, and improved communications infrastructure.

Everyone in the supply chain is impacted, from major contractors, through medium players, to mum and dad businesses. The playing field is more competitive. The need to understand and respond directly to the political and community dimensions of projects is heightened. The definition of quality is more stringent. The demand for value for money is unprecedented. The accountability is more rigorous.

It has never been more critical for the success of civil contractors to understand both the fundamentals of and best practice in business development and tendering. How can you build the relationships you need to be sustainable and to feed your pipeline? Where do you fit in the market? What is your strategy to win competitive business? How do you write compliant and compelling tenders? And what is your plan to continuously improve the way you bring in work?

CCF Victoria in partnership with Tender Plus Skills (RTO No. 45317) is pleased to be supporting CCF members to become qualified in competitive business with the Diploma of Business and Tendering (10667NAT). “I found the Diploma of Business Development and Tendering to be insightful and focused with well targeted units that provided in depth explanation of the procurement lifecycle from a tenders perspective. The facilitation of the course was engaging with excellent content drawn from the real world. Deborah has an in depth knowledge of tendering across a wide range of sectors and was able to articulate examples which supported and provided context for every unit.” Ryan Cook, Principal Civil Engineer / Business Development, Golding Contractors
