Spotters Alternate to Plant Operator Assessment
– Closed Book Exam (2-3 hours)

If you do not hold any Plant Operator tickets but want to work as a Spotter, you can sit this theory based assessment to qualify for the Plant Operator ticket pre-requisite to gain a full Energy Safe Victoria Spotters qualification. This is a great way to verify your knowledge and skills.

This is an Engery Safe Victoria (ESV) approved assessment which provides an alternative to holding plant operator tickets for;

  • Excavator (LE) and / or
  • Front-end Loader (LL) with crane jib attachment and / or
  • Backhoe (LB)

What topics does the course cover?

You will receive a Study Guide with all questions and answers. We recommend at least 2-3 weeks study time. Please give yourself plenty of time to revise the material before the assessment date.


Employees must have at least 2 years industry experience working around the Plant defined. Supervisors will be requested to verify this experience.

What will you get out of it?

After successful completion of this assessment, you will be eligible to attend a full day Spotters course and provide us with all mandatory ESV requirements.

Note: To gain a full ESV Spotter Ticket, participants must attend 1 day Spotters course with Civil Train and supply current Level 2 First Aid with CPR.

Who should attend?

This course is for anyone who wants to become a fully qualified Spotter but does not hold any Plant Operator tickets.
