Course Details
This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for developing traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
- Days 1 and 2: Focus on the theory aspects of the units.
- Day 3: Dedicated to practical application.
- Practical Experience: Student needs to complete practical experience on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
This nationally recognised Skill Set is delivered by Civil Contractors Federation (Victoria Branch), a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Number 3704) and an AustRoads approved training provider.
Prerequisites
This skill set may only be undertaken in addition to:
- Completion of any of the following skill sets:
- RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads; or
- RIISS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads; or
- RIISS00062 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Motorways and Freeways; and
- At least 12 months experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
- Providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 20 temporary traffic management types in at least four of the following design types:
- Pedestrian and cyclist controls
- Construction sites
- Lane closures
- Shoulder closures
- Night works
- Use of portable traffic control devices
- Motorways or freeways;or
- At least an AQF Level 6 qualification in a civil construction, traffic engineering, or road design related field; or
- Entry requirements specifically detailed in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Statement of Attainment detailing the competencies associated with the following skill set:
RIISS00063 - Traffic Management Designer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads (TMD1)
- RIIRIS402E - Carry out the Risk Management Process
- RIICWD503E - Prepare Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes
